I've kind of disappeared from LJ, but I dropped back in and saw a bunch of requests to translate fics. I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to check in again; if anyone wants to translate, there's blanket permission to translate anything you'd like.

... I can dance and I can sing ... er, not really, but enough with the Spamalot quotes.

Recently, I've come to the conclusion that I am absolutely fascinated by "sad smiles". This dual-toned expression has nudged me into liking characters and actors I've had no previous interest in seeing. Part of it may be the challenge of getting such a diversity between the smile (an inherently happy expression) and sorrow in the same look. Part of it may just be my own morbid fascination with people trying to cover their own pain. Who knows. Back to the point:

I'm looking for pictures/characters who have Sad Smiles. Already noted examples are Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport) in the end of the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie and Nicolas Cage, who pretty much looks a little sad all the time, except when he's scowling.

If anyone can help point out pictures of people (anime, real, or otherwise) with sad smiles, I'd very much appreciate it.

At long last... it's finished. The final chapter of Deep Blue Sea. (insert maniacal laughter). I've been working on this story for nigh on six months, if you count planning. And now it's finished. No keelhauling for me!

Thank yous go out to Tiff and Chibi and everyone else who sat and listened to me rant through the "crazy plotbunny" that was eating my brains back in July and August, finding me all sorts of nifty tidbits of legends and sea-myths that could give this story depth. Thanks to Chibi and Kaja for beta-ing and threats/pleadings that kept me encouraged, even when I wanted to give up.

Wow. It's been more than two months since I updated this fic.

... Warning: I post this now, only somewhat skimmed by a second person, because my normal beta was either sick or doing more important stuff with people in real life instead of ever being online when I could send this to her. I decided that if I continued to wait for her to be online, I might as well submit myself for keelhauling, because I'd never get the motivation to work on Chapter Seven, which should be the last chapter. Blame all continuity errors and typos on her!

Even though One Piece is not my primary fandom any more (and I can't even begin to figure out what is), I will not drop DBS until it's finished.

... dude. WTF. I'm up to my elbows in projects. Why the hell am I being jumped by muses who've been more or less retired for several months?

I mean, sure, The Phantom of the Opera and Labyrinth aren't exactly dead fandoms, but hey. They've been quiet for a while.

Why is it now that I'm trying frantically to finish a project for Pax (I'm inking it, it's going to be rough but it's five pages!), trying to ressurect a mostly-dead fic so I don't get keelhauled (I'm trying, I'm trying!), making futile attempts to edit and find a better ending for my NaNoWriMo project (and fighting the urge to just rewrite the whole thing), and participate in two RPGs (one of which I run) that I get jumped by an idea for a music video? I don't have the materials for that. I don't have the equipment. I don't have the time. But the images are there, and the song is good, and if the idea doesn't go away soon, I'll probably end up making another comic to it. ((See my deviant art for previous MV-inspired comics))

I fancy myself to be something of an artist, still learning and pulling bits of techniques off of artists I admire, but an artist none the less. And I'm incredibly vain, because I keep drawing illustrations for my fics. I'm heavily visually-minded. It happens. So, here's more experiments in arts for Deep Blue Sea.

Consequently, those of you who were asking about drawing things for my birthday? I'd love you forever if you'd draw something for Deep Blue Sea. More chapters coming soon, I promise.

So, for a while, I've been fighting with terrible Writer's Block. It came and smashed me upside the head right in the middle of my second long fic, a complicated and all around painful piece called "The Last Dance". It probably doesn't help that I have a terminally short attention span when it comes to fandoms, and the current drag of the OP manga arc is pushing my limit.

The drabbles on the OPY100 list are great, but not really enough to hold me over. I'm creatively floundering. As a result, I'm looking for something to keep me afloat. This is what I came up with:

I'm considering re-writing Raptus Regalis, my first full-length OP fic. There are some parts I feel could be done better, more fleshed out, or assorted other things. However, I want to know what you, the audience, would think about this happening. Did you like it as it was the first time? Did you think it was shit? Could it use improvement? Would you bother reading the rewrite, should I chose to do it?

I'm pretty sure chibi_trillian will go "Gwar!", since the poor girl was my beta then and doesn't like having to the tiring job of editing (read: ripping apart) my stuff. What about the rest of you?

I've spent today largely infuriated with myself as a writer and a human being. Balancing this out is the general amusement I have from playing Kingdom Hearts 2 all weekend and discovering that Captain Jack Sparrow is voiced by none other than... yep. Hirata Hiroaki, the voice of Sanji. The proper voice of Sanji, anyway. Unlike the guy in the English version, he makes no attempt whatsoever to sound like Johnny Depp, and therefore sounds exactly like Sanji. (The English VA, by the way, sounds amazingly like a stoned Beatle...)

But I feel like being challenged. I must have brain damage or something from the amount of stress I was recently under. Still, the urge hasn't gone away, so... Challenge Me.

Specifically, I'm issuing an Illustration Challenge. If you've written a fic and have a scene you want to see, an image you want drawn, cover art, or whatever, (and don't mind my artstyle) challenge me to draw it for you.

The only rules are:

1.) You have to have written it yourself (or be one of the authors, if multiple authors worked on it)

2.) Try to keep it below an 'R' rating (I'd like to be able to post these publically, if at all possible, and I'm no good at drawing more "intimate" situations)

Aside from that, go for it. I recommend, if someone takes me up on this, either linking me to the fic in question or giving me a detailed description of the scene and events therein.

All illustrations will be in pencil unless ink and/or color are specifically requested. If you want a general feeling of what my art looks like before subjecting your fics to illustration, check out my DeviantArt site.

I am so going to wonder what I was thinking later.

A month later I revisited the sketch with the intent to finish it, and realized that my art style had changed.
